How to find out if your hard drive or SSD uses MBR or GPT partition style on Windows

Modern versions of Windows and other operating systems can use either MBR or GPT partition schemes, GPT partition style is newer, more secure, and is required for booting Windows in UEFI mode, While MBR is older and is required for booting Windows in BIOS mode.

To check which partition style your disk is using open disk management by searching for partition then clicking on create and format hard disk partitions

Alternatively you can press Windows key+X then click on “Disk Management”, or press Windows key+R to open run dialog then type diskmgmt.msc then press enter.

Locate the disk you want to check in the Disk Management window. (usually disk 0) Right-click it and select “Properties”

Then click on the “Volumes” tab, and check “Partition style”ย you’ll see either “Master Boot Record (MBR)” or “GUID Partition Table (GPT)
